Learning from People: Exploring the Problem Space
We all want to be developing digital products and services that have real, positive impact. How do we ensure that product requirements are based on genuine user needs, and are derived from an accurate understanding of the problem space that we want the product to address? How do we gather data that challenges our assumptions about what people do, and tests our claims over what's needed? This session will provide an overview of research methods that can be used for strategically exploring the problem space, learning about the characteristics of current and potential users and the problems they experience. We'll look at the types of data that we can gather, and what we might be able to do with it. We'll also consider how best to involve people in evaluating existing products and designing ideas and prototypes as part of an iterative development methodology.
